Wireless Electricity

Engineers have been making things possible that others could only imagine. Electricity is no more a miracle; is the efforts of scientists who make it possible to use electric power for countless routine works. Nobody could think of a life without electricity. The conventional use of electricity is made possible through the use of wires. The next step towards the innovation in electricity revolution is wireless electricity.

The wireless electricity has been given a name by researchers and it is termed as "witricity". Witricity is a new invention by scientists, which could change the way we use electricity and leave away the mesh of cables, plugs and chargers that litter modern homes.

The principle of wireless electricity is based upon coupled resonant objects for the transference of electricity to objects without the use of any wires. A witricity system consists of a

• Receiver

Witricity device could be installed in the ceiling that permits the use of electronic appliances without batteries. When electric current is passed through the coil of the device, a powerful electromagnetic field is created around it and electronic devices like mobile phones, MP3 player, laptops, portable game players, could be automatically charged without any charger connections or any trailing wires.

The concept of witricity is novel for a common person because it is in the developmental stage, lots of work is still to be done in improving the devices. According to the market report, the power applications operate at only 40% efficiency and the potential applications of witricity are expected to materialize in the new future with some necessary modifications.

According to my opinion, the witricity is an emerging technology, which once exposed in the market can create a real boom in the market because the future witricity power applications permit you to use wireless energy, without having to replace or recharge batteries. There will be no need of getting rid of these batteries either or of remembering to recharge batteries periodically. More so, with witricity, there would be no need of plugging in any wires and plugs and thus face a clutter of wires. But, there are some hurdles on the way to its popularity. They are:
  1. Security- as the product has to travel through air to reach it’s destination using conductor and receiver
  2. Efficiency- tests show 40% efficiency to light a 60w light bulb from 7 feet.
  3. Health – magnetic field around human body all the day could be harmful
  4. Distance from the device- if distance increases, it uses more power.
  5. Size of device- is directly proportional to power consumption

Many gigantic companies are taking interest in wireless electric power system; recently Intel has showed off a wireless electric power system.
